31. Four Myths That Hold Brands And Business Owners Back

So I have a question for you. Do these statements sound familiar? Have you heard these before?

You just need a formula and you're good to go.
I'm building an online business.
I am my brand or my brand is my baby.
I need to reach 10,000 followers.

Huh? Yeah, we've heard that too.

So in today's episode India and I are breaking through some of the myths that we're told, as business owners and entrepreneurs. Some of the things that can lead you astray and absolutely be untrue. Things that can have you putting out effort in ways that don't actually help you. These are important for us to debunk simply because when we work with in our quarterly 2:1 coaching + consulting programs with Pause On The Play, some of these things can come up and they're not beneficial. They're not helpful. So we're all about getting things out of the way that don't serve so you can make space for the things that are actually helpful.

Let’s break down why these myths can keep business owners focused on the wrong things or sitting in mindsets that don’t help them.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THIS EPISODE

  • Why a formula isn’t a one size fits all thing, and is not a blanket answer for everyone and everything.

  • Why an online business is not a thing. You own a business.

  • Why you are not your brand, and your brand is not your baby.

WHAT’S ONE ACTION YOU CAN TAKE AWAY FROM THE DISCUSSION?

Choose one myth you’ve acted on or believed that you can get rid of.

SHE SAID…

“…people like to think that it's just the online thing. It's your social media, or, you know, like, there's so much more to it than that. And when you're building a business, you are building it for more than just online. And so it's funny because like, when you and I do our 2:1 coaching and consulting sessions with people, this to me is like a mindset thing that completely boils over into all the other things you do. If you have convinced yourself. I'm an introvert, I don't want to deal with people. I don't like it. I'm uncomfortable. So I can just do an online business and then you hide. But what you also fail to realize is your hiding period, and there's other things that this is going to show up in because somehow or another you've told yourself that all you have to do is put up stock photos and quotes. And you got a business.”

“Number two, it tells me that you're in a mindset that you can just insert number of humans here…and that's going to solve all your business problems. And let's just be real, you could go meet 10,000 people on the street tomorrow. But if you don't know who you're looking for, why you're looking for them, if you don't have a system and are really good about continuing to nurture, engage with them after the fact. If you don't know how to serve those 10,000 people even face to face at a networking group. Good luck.”
