48. 3 Mindsets Derailing Your DEI Work

Back in Maryland from Alt Summit in Palm Springs, California, this episode is a reflection of some of Erica’s impressions from her interactions at the summit.

  • [0:03:47] Building a community of followers won’t mean very much to you or your followers unless there are meaning and purpose behind it. Here’s where your values come in. If you’re not clear on what your values are, this episode will help you see why it should be a priority. Get clear on your values. They will impact literally every decision you’ll make in your business.

  • [0:04:38] I saw a lot of fear around letting values drive your business. "Will I lose money? Will I lose part of my community?” You might, you will, and you should. You’ll have a strong bond with the ones who stay with you. You’ll feel more at ease with yourself and more confident.

  • [0:06:47] The danger of not leading with your values is that if you don’t, some followers will think you’re something that you’re not. When leading with your values, you attract the right people.

  • [0:08:24] Connecting and building relationships is what we all long for. It’s worth it to take the risk to make genuine connections.

  • [0:09:51] Businesses built to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion are on the rise.

The Pause on the Play Community was created to support businesses who want to lead from their values. The community provides the forward movement that you want and need to be who you are and attract the right followers.

“The pause on the play community gives you the opportunity to be in the room with like-minded individuals… sometimes we just want to know that we’re not by ourselves.” — Erica

QUOTES

“Only you can answer for you. You have to decide whether or not losing those people by being honest and authentic about who you are and what matters to you….You have to decide whether or not those people that you would lose really matter.” — Erica

“It’s such a huge part of the brands that are built, the businesses that are being expanded because you’re leading with what matters. And that all starts with clarity around your values.” — Erica

“All these things are just a part of standing for what matters and standing against what you want to see less of by embodying the things that are going to expand yourself and your reach and your capability to do things differently.”
